4th Grade Field Trip

So for our big field trip when I was in fourth grade, my grade (about 30-35 kids at that time) travelled to this city called Hannibal, Missouri. It was a few hours’ drive, and our reason for going was because we had read some Mark Twain book and he apparently lived there.

Anyway, while we were there, we went to this Mark Twain museum with a GIFT SHOP! Which was super cool to my 9-year-old self. I bought a pink fluffy stuffed dog which I named Thatcher after some Mark Twain character. (My then-best-friend bought one and named it Becky after the same character.)

Then came by far my favourite part of the field trip: the riverboat on the Missippi River. Before the trip, our teachers had said that under no circumstances were we allowed more than one treat on the riverboat. (It had a concession stand.) Guess which rule my best friend and I broke? Apparently, it was because they were afraid some people would get sick on the bus back, which (thank God) I did not.

Anyways, my then-best friend's father was one of the chaperones and said best friend and I were in his group that he was responsible for along with I think two of our other friends. And I distinctly remember going back and forth between the deck and the concession stand getting candy. I think I ended up with an ice cream or two and a full-size pack of Skittles. Anyways, if y'all are ever in Hannibal, Missouri, taking the riverboat on the Missippi (if they still have it, I haven't been since) is a super cool experience!
